Night in Muzdalifah

المبيت بمزدلفة

Pray Maghrib and Isha combined on arrival, rest, collect pebbles, and pray Fajr. The ground is open; the sky is the point.

When. Arrive after sunset. Weak, elderly, women, and their helpers may leave after midnight. Others stay for Fajr, then make a short dua, then go to Mina.

Steps

  1. 1On arrival: Maghrib (3) then Isha (2), one adhan, two iqamahs, no sunnah between them.
  2. 2Collect 49 pebbles if you will leave on the 12th, or 70 if you will stay for the 13th. Chickpea-sized, from Muzdalifah or Mina — not from the Jamarat troughs.
  3. 3Sleep if you can. There are no tents for most groups; a mat and a light wrap are enough.
  4. 4Pray Fajr, then sit in dua until the sky lightens. Depart for Mina before sunrise, as the Prophet ﷺ did.

Keep in mind

  • Toilets are scarce. Go before the bus parks if you can.
  • Keep your group’s meeting point; phones die in the crush of buses.
  • Pebbles: 7 for the 10th, 21 for the 11th, 21 for the 12th, plus 21 if you stay the 13th. Bring extras in case some fall.

Common mistakes

  • Collecting huge stones or taking pebbles from the throwing basins.
  • Leaving well before midnight without a concession.
