Tahallul from Umrah

التحلل من العمرة

Men shave the head (better) or trim all around. Women trim a fingertip’s length from a lock of hair. You then leave Ihram until the 8th.

When. Right after Sa‘i. Licensed barbers sit at Marwa and around the Haram.

Steps

  1. 1Men: shave (halq) or shorten (taqsir) the whole head, not a few hairs at the back.
  2. 2Women: cut about 1–2 cm from a gathered lock. Do this in private.
  3. 3Ihram restrictions lift. Wear ordinary clothes, apply scent, and rest until 8 Dhul Hijjah.

Keep in mind

  • Keep one Ihram set clean for the 8th.
  • If menses prevent tawaf, delay Umrah tawaf and tahallul; sa‘i waits for tawaf. Wuquf at Arafat is still valid without tawaf.

Common mistakes

  • Trimming only a few hairs at the nape (men) — that is not taqsir of the head.
  • Assuming you must stay in ihram until Hajj on Tamattuʿ. You should exit.
